What is IFS?
IFS is a therapy model that is accessible and intuitive and emphasizes acceptance and curiosity. It says the mind is naturally multiple. We all experience different thoughts, emotions, and habits that sometimes come into conflict. Rather than being pulled around by different "parts" of ourselves, IFS teaches us to return to our core or spirit, our authentic "Self". By accessing our boundless Self energy, we lead our lives more intentionally. It just takes practice!
Lots of info about IFS is available online. We've compiled some helpful articles, books, and more in this Resource List!
Psychedelic Parts Work Resource ListWhy IFS with psychedelics?
IFS and psychedelics can bring us to the same places of healing and expansion. The IFS framework can help us at all stages of psychedelic use. In preparation, we can identify specific parts of our psyche to focus on. During the journey, we can access Self energy to accept what arises. And we can return to these parts and bring in new ways of being with integration. Psychedelics bring us to inner states where change is possible, and IFS gives us the tools to make changes.
Here's an example of how IFS and psychedelics naturally fit together. In MAPS' MDMA for PTSD trials, participants (who had never heard of IFS) experienced Self energy and saw themselves as multiple parts! They gave natural compassion to their inner child, their inner critic, and more. Learn more about IFS and psychedelics with this article:
